PWD minister inspects colony roads at Daporijo
DAPORIJO, Dec 20: PWD Minister Gojen Gadi along with the local MLA Daporijo Dikto Yekar, DC K Dulom, SP Anto Alphonse, AE PHED T Jeram and others inspected the colony roads and drainage system of Sigin, Polo, Pakam and Tigri colonies maintained by the Public Works and Urban Development departments and the Tadak Dulom suspension bridge here.
The Minister on the spot sanctioned Rs One Crore for the immediate maintenance and upkeep of township roads falling under the PWD. He also urged the department to expedite the tender process for the maintenance of the Tadak Dulom suspension bridge for which an amount of Rs One crore had been sanctioned under SPA.

Dr. Begi gets Karmayogi award 2014
ITANAGAR, Dec 20: Former Director of Higher and Technical Education Dr. Joram Begi was awarded with Karmayogi award 2014 in a glittering ceremony here in the Constitution Club, New Delhi on Friday. The award was handed over by Smriti Irani, Union Minister, Human Resource Development, and Bhaiyaji Joshi, General Secretary of RSS. The award has been instituted by eminent NGO My Home India under its ONE India programme.
The award carries a cash amount of Rs 1 lakh and citation. The award was given to Dr Begi for his outstanding contribution in the field of education in Arunachal Pradesh. While conferring the award, Irani showered praises on Dr. Begi for his selfless dedication and relentless efforts to improve the quality of higher education in Arunachal Pradesh. Richard Gere arrives at Tawang
TAWANG, DEC 20: Prominent Hollywood actor Richard Gere arrived here at Tawang today. He is in the town to attend a seminar on "Challenges facing the Himalayan region" being held at Kalawangpo Convention Hall on Dec 21. The seminar is being organized by the Department of Karmik & Adhyatmik Affairs (DoKA) in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation. Eminent Buddhist scholars from various countries along with local intellectuals will deliberate in the seminar.
Gere and his entourage landed at Lumla and were later escorted to Tawang via Mahabodhi Old Age Home Teli by MLA Lumla & Parliamentary Secretary (RWD) Jambey Tashi.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju along with members of International Buddhist confederation (IBC) have also landed at Tawang.
Rijiju, Gere and the IBC members later visited the famous Tawang Monastery, Urgelling Gompa (Birth place of the VIth Dalai Lama) & Khinmey monastery. They also visited Manjushree Vidhyapeeth, an orphanage run by Lama Thupten Phuntsok and interacted with the children.
A SPT building gutted down at Sooth village

ITANAGAR, Dec 20: A SPT building owned by one advocate Tayo Hero was reportedly gutted down when a devastating fire broke out today at Sooth village near Naharlagun. The fire broke around 9 AM today. The source of accident is yet to be ascertained, however it is believed that a short circuit might have triggered it. The owner informed this daily that by the time fire brigade arrived at spot, the entire building was engulfed by the ravaging fire. Sources informed that the police had attempted hard to douse the fire but failed to save the valuable belongings of the owner from reducing to ashes.

Namuk Govt. Sec. School conducts cleanliness drive
ITANAGAR, Dec 20: The Govt. Secondary School, Namuk conducted a cleanliness drive in the school campus under the initiative of Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board Chairman Nyamar Karbak yesterday.
Karbak also provided few funds from his side for renovation of the school building, fencing and two sets of computer to the school as committed during his last visit to the school during August this year.
Karbak expressed appreciated the Headmaster of the School to take such a good initiative and urged all Principals and Headmasters of the constituency to adopt the same policy to maintain their own school. Tree Plantation was also part of the day.
The school established in 1981 has been running without required infrastructure such as proper toilets, drinking water facility, electrification, IT materials and boundary wall etc, the school headmaster informed in a release.

School observe two minute silence for the victims of Peshawar school attack
ITANAGAR, Dec 20: The principal, teaching staff and students of Govt Hr Sec School Naharlagun (Kankarnalah) observed two minute silence on December 18 at 11am in its school premises as condolence to the Army school children of Peshawar, Pakistan, who lost their lives in a brutal attack on December 16 last.
Prayers were offered for peace of the departed soul in heaven and to strengthen their family members to bear the shock and pain caused due to the irreparable loss.

Traumatised PPA says, departure of MLAs not the end of the party

BJP flays former PPA legislators, demand justice to APPSC aspirants

ITANAGAR, Dec 20: The Arunachal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today flayed Peoples' Party of Arunachal (PPA) legislators who have merged with the Indian National Council on Friday.
In a press conference held at Press Club today, BJP National General Secretary Tapir Gao termed the merger as 'deceiving" the people of Arunachal Pradesh, adding that legislators promised of stable regional party but betrayed at the end.
The BJP National General Secretary further said such practice in the state should be highly condemned by all sections of the society. Highlighting the double standard shown by the legislators, Gao stated that any political party should maintain its party ideology and principles to serve the state and the nation.
Meanwhile, sharpening its attack on the state government over APPSCCE question paper leakage issue, the state BJP demanded justice for the aspirants adding that an IAS officer be appointed as permanent member in the Commission for effective functioning.
"The Commission determines the future of many youths of the state and nation, however Congress government is taking it lightly" the BJP claimed.
It further disclosed that BJP will take up the matter at the floor of the Assembly in coming session and that the Leader of Opposition has already been appraised to raise the issue.
The BJP state President Tai Tagak in his address alleged that the state government has made deliberate attempt to sabotage the BJP rally at Lumla by cancelling the helicopter service. Tagak informed media persons that as a part mass membership drive under Maha Abhiyan campaign at Lumla, he and National General Secretary Tapir Gao were supposed to travel by chopper when the flight was cancelled. The state BJP President further added that the Congress government's attempts to stop them from going to the event turned futile.
Gamlin brother joins BJP
At the sideline of press conference, Jarpum Gamlin, the younger brother of former Chief Minister Late Jarbom Gamlin who died on Nov 30 joined the state BJP. Jarpum who is a former president of Arunachal Pradesh Club has been assigned as in charge of the state BJP media cell.
Though there is bound to be speculation at the timing of the Gamlin joining BJP, he clarified that his joining the party at this juncture should not be seen from prism of politics and that it was a purely personal preference.
The state BJP refused to comment whether they would field Jarpum from the Liromoba constituency in the upcoming bye election.

Amongst these 169 trainees in the rank of DySP and Sub Inspector, 107 are from Arunachal Pradesh, 30 from Nagaland, 15 from Sikkim, 8 from Assam (Home Guards), 5 from Mizoram and 2 each from the States of Manipur and Meghalaya. The total strength of DySP probationers are 20.
The 40th batch basic course started w.e.f. 30th January 2014.
SI Amum Panyang from Arunachal was declared the All Round Best Cadet among while Rukulu Tunyi of Nagaland has been declared the best among the Dy.SP.

In its traditional role of ensuring safety of people besides effective law and order, he said, "The police force, in fact, acts as a catalyst for economic growth of our country."
Stating that NEPA has emerged as the premier training institute for police officers of NE states, he said, "I am happy to know that on the advice of the home secretary, a committee under the chairmanship of the Director of National Police Academy, Hyderabad, has worked out a plan to develop NEPA into a centre of 'excellence'."
Union minister of state for Home Kiren Rijiju also assured to take up the other pending issues in the Ministry in order to strengthen and upgrade the academy.

RUKSIN, Dec 20: Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) is making all out efforts to break the impasse on the proposed Broad Gauge (extended) railway passing through East Siang and Dibang Valley districts.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) conducted a survey for construction of the BG track linking Murkongselek and Pasighat town during September 2011. The project engineer of the extended BG railway project during November last year informed that they would execute the work as per the new alignment. But the work, which was scheduled to be completed last year, has not yet started due to stiff opposition from some sections of the local people. The people, who are opposing the railway, said that the proposed railway line is likely to affect hundreds of poor farmers of East Siang district. The latest survey for construction of the BG railway line carried out by NF Railway covers a large portion of horticulture gardens belonging to indigenous farmers of the district.
Another section, who voiced their opposition against the railway connectivity to Pasighat, cited various reasons like influx of illegal migrants, impact of Inner Line Pass (ILP) mechanism and probable change in the demographic pattern in the region.
The ABK has already conducted a 'consultative meeting' with the Railway Affected Land Owners' Committee (RALOC) of Pasighat and discussed the issue thoroughly. It finally constituted a committee to gather consensus of the stakeholders regarding construction of hydropower project and BG railway in Siang belt.
ABK sources said the committee led by the state's Hydropower Under Secretary, Tai Taggu is in action to collect public opinion from different places. The outcome is expected after February 15 next year, said the sources.
On the other hand, majority of the Government officers, elected leaders and elite society members of the district have supported the railway project and opined that railway is the cheapest means of transport and is vital for national security and industrial development of the local people.
According to them, export and import trading can be boost up through rail connectivity, while it will help in development of industries in the area.

Experts visit declining Orange orchards at Toru circle
ITANAGAR, Dec 20: A group of experts comprising of scientists from ICAR Basar and state Horticulture department visited Orange orchards at Toru Circle to take stock of the declining orange production on Dec 19.
The Group interacted with various progressive farmers of Laptap village and instructed them to take up immediate preventive measures to curtail the further spreading of citrus decline in adjacent areas. The also team visited various infected fields and collected samples from random locations, to further send them to regional research laboratory Barapani, Shillong for examining the exact cause of decline of orange orchard in those areas. The experts assured the farmers to come up with exact pathological cause of declining orange garden and a tangible management practice, once the report of laboratory study of collected samples reached them from Shillong in a week's time.
The ICAR scientists, Dr. Anup Chandra (Entomologist), Dr. Raghuveer Singh (Plant Pathologist), Dr. Theja Angami (Fruit Science) were accompanied by Kenbo Pago, Horticulture Development Officer Toru and Millo Tara, Horticulture Development Officer, Balijan under the instruction of Directorate of Horticulture, stated a official release.

NE students demand repeal of AFSPA, debate in Lok Sabha

The activists spoke of the unconstitutional nature of the legislation and how it was being used to suppress the democratic aspirations of people across the country. At the protest, NEFIS representative, Chinglen Khumukcham, argued that the legislation's enforcement across various states in the country and the unwillingness of successive governments to initiate a debate on the floor of the house on the question of AFSPA's enforcement, was indicative of the fact that in reality the Indian state readily uses a large section of its armed forces to suppress the voice of its own citizens rather than foreign infiltrators.
As the protest persisted, a delegation went to submit a memorandum at the Office of the Speaker (Lok Sabha), demanding an immediate debate on the Armed Forces Special Powers Act before the close of the winter session, i.e. 22 December.
Plan afoot to make Yigi Kaum village as Sansad Aadarsh gaon
AALO, Dec 20: Elaborate arrangement has been made to start the baseline survey and entry point activities to make Yigi Kaum village as the Sansad Aadarsh Gaon under the Central Govt scheme. The strategy was chalked out in a meeting held at DC office here yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, West Siang Deputy Commissioner, Pige Ligu, who presided over the meeting, appealed to the PRIs, GBs and people of the village to work with coordinated effort to make the programme a success. He said "though no fund has been earmarked to start the initial activities so far but we should start the preliminary works whatever is possible from our side."
The topography, social mapping, demarcation of village boundary, existing resources in the village and critical gaps to be filled up should immediately be worked out through joint survey by the line departments of the district, he said while asking the Project Director to fix a date for the survey works. The DC also assured to take up the road renovation from Pobdi to Yigi Kaum with the EE RWD.
Participating in the discussion, Yaman Bagra ZPC West Siang said that land ownership claims have become the obstacles in the implementation and submission of Utilization Certificates to the Govt. and such issues should not surface in making of an Adarsh village. She also said that Five Year Perspective Plan drawn by the department should be consulted with the PRIs at different levels. The Nodal Officer and Project Director, Dege Ete said that a Technical Team of the department will be deputed soon to carry out baseline survey of the village. The EE PWD, Er. Dumar Bagra stressed on starting the initial works that does not involve money and people of the village has to show their commitments and set example of living standards of an Aadarsh village.
ZPM Ubu Yomgi Ori disclosed that the village is all set to work in motion with the Govt. agencies and started the social mobilization, Village Development Plan, cleanliness drive and plantation around the village. Papa FC to meet Arunachal United in first semifinal today
ITANAGAR, Dec 20: Papa FC came back from a goal down to draw with E &Ks FC in the last league match of the 2ND State Level Veteran Cup Football Tournament at Rajiv Stadium Naharlagun today.
Needing all three points to stay in the tournament E &Ks FC came up more strongly and midfield game was dominated with some swift moves by their midfielder Lige Lollen.
E & Ks shot into lead in 19th minute into the play with goal from Tam Lebu.
Second half started with positive note as Papa FC equalized in 47th minutes through a well taken header by their winger Nabam Tamar.
Papa FC needing a draw to enter semifinal did not sit back and went all out for the winner.
E&Ks FC shocked by the equalizer and needing to win the game sent their super sub Toko Pacho (Bulbul) replacing his elder brother Toko Tatung who almost scored in 60th minutes, which would have sent his team in semis.
